The story consist of Professor Nina who is working independently among other researchers under a clinical & research Corporation called WRC (Woman Research Centre), the research ranges from various aspects of woman health to clinical lab-ware. However for Nina, things turned out quite differently.
Over years of research, she noticed a constant trend in the decreasing number of males among the population. The number is not yet staggering but through her advanced computer algorithm projections, it's predicted that it will reach a tipping point within 10-15 years. From her research as well, she discovered that this is beyond her ability to do anything about it. It is almost as if the human population is on an oncoming self depletion.
She presented this matter on several conferences, where most responses even by prominent scientists were negative and even considered her projection as a kooks theory. She also proposed a solution to such matter which always got her expelled from these conferences. Devastated but determined she decided to pursue her solution in her own way.
Back in WRC, the higher-ups did take note on Nina's "looney projection and perverted solutions" but despite all this negative response, they still allow Nina to work on other 'mundane' research as long as she drops her kooky projections. This of course didn't go well with the rest of the other researchers in WRC. Most of them tends to be cynical whenever her name were mentioned during the board meetings. This kind of isolation pushed Nina even further away from her co-workers and the public.
However, things are not all doom and gloom. One bio-pharmaceutical company from the east called 'Ogawa Corporation' have been in touch and are showing interest to Nina's research ever since her first 'kooky' conference paper. They began by unofficially funding and providing necessary tools and equipment for her research back in WRC.
Ogawa imposed some simple rules. Nina is to develop this technology within WRC without anyone's knowledge. If she gets caught no one shall be able to retrace its connection to Ogawa. And most importantly, Ogawa shall obtain exclusive ownership of the developed solutions.
To make this happen, Nina will be working on mundane research assigned to her by WRC during the day. But, during the night, she'll be down in her secret lab for her 'personal' projects.
Over time, this personal project reached prototype stage and she began to realize that it must be tested. In the past, she could just hire willing subjects who wanted to quickly earn some money. But, this time it's quite different. It kinda reminds her of her long lost research assistant named Ana, who is now working in a different department of WRC. Somehow she wish that they are still together, researching like they did in the past. "I wonder what she might think of this? She might think I'm crazy too" Nina thinks to herself.
Till this day, Nina never forgave herself for confessing her feelings to Ana, which caused her to leave.
Alone and desperate (Ogawa have been contacting her constantly for any development updates), Nina decided to go against her ethics or as she called it: 'contaminating the research'. That is by becoming a test subject to the prototype. (hence, the first prototype ie the embracer). The first experience was quite frightening because her fate were subjected entirely to computerized monitoring while she goes through what she at first thought was an 'ordeal' experience.
Surprisingly it was not what she was expecting. From testing a prototype, it somehow has become a routine where every night she will head down to the lab to 'ride' the embracer. Nina is continuously tweaking the prototypes and began creating several more prototypes and stress test setups. She also works out to prepare herself to be fully prepared to experience her 'prototypes'.
Everything was going well until one night, she was notified by her personal lab computer assistant that there was a break in to her lab. It was not clear whether Nina was able to apprehend the culprit which is suspected to be a spy sent by the Ogawa's.
Weeks after this incident, the higher-ups of WRC announced that a new program had been initiated: 'staff enrollment for promotion program'. This is where two of the major departments in WRC (Clinics and Research) will interchange staff (who are looking for a promotion from their current position) to be assisting the other researchers/ doctors for a certain period of time. Their promotion is entirely up to those who they are assigned to.
In this case, it was Ana who decided to enroll for the program where she requested to be assisting Nina in her current 'official' research. Reluctant Nina has to agree to the the arrangements from the higher-ups of WRC. Firstly, she doesn't want them to know about her secret research, and secondly some of the prototypes now requires more than 1 subject. She also knew that Ana wouldn't know what she's signing herself up for.
